Franz Schubert

(1797 – 1828)

Franz Schubert in 1875

Schubert occupies a historical niche as the bridge between Classical and Romantic styles. He was contemporary to Beethoven, although one generation younger. Instead of a large output of piano sonatas, he composed mostly short piano pieces in the forms of dances and impromptus. One set of short pieces is even called Musical Moments. He is probably best known as a composer of hundreds of songs, all of which have wonderful piano accompaniments.
